nogoe — Privacy Policy
Last updated 12 October 2026
nogoe is made by praptiyogi.app. The short version: we don't track
you, show ads, or sell anything. You can browse, search, scan and save
without an account, and then we store nothing about you. If you create an
account to contribute, we store your email address, the display name you
choose, and what you decide to post to the community.
This policy covers nogoe 2.0 and later, on iPhone and iPad and on Android. Where the two apps work differently, it says so.
Accounts are optional
An account is only needed to contribute: to add a place, a dish or a
product, share what you found, confirm or correct what someone else reported,
upload a photo, or report a problem. Everything else works without one.
You can sign in with an email address and password, or
with Sign in with Apple. On Android, Sign in with Apple
opens Apple's sign-in page in your browser. The same account works in both
apps. Accounts, and everything members
post, are stored with our backend provider, Supabase, which runs the database,
the sign-in and the photo storage on our behalf.
What the app does with your information
- Email address — used to sign you in and to send account
emails, such as confirming your address or resetting your password. It is
never shown to other members and we send no marketing. If you use Sign in
with Apple, we receive the address Apple passes on, which can be Apple's
private relay address if you choose to hide yours.
- Password — kept by our backend provider in a protected,
scrambled form. We cannot read it.
- Display name and avatar — the display name you choose,
and a profile photo if you add one, are public. They are shown on your
profile and next to what you post, together with counts of your
contributions and any badges.
- What you post — the reports, answers, notes and photos
you choose to post, and the places, dishes and products you add, are stored
so that other people using nogoe can see them. This is public content, shown
with your display name and the date: treat it as visible to everyone.
- Saved places and products — kept on your device. When
you are signed in they are also synced to your account so they follow you to
another device. They are not shown to other members.
- Blocks and reports you file — private. The members you
block are not told, and nobody else can see your list. A report you file
about a place, a post, a photo or a member is seen only by nogoe's
moderators.
- Settings — what you avoid, appearance, units and
similar choices are saved only on your device.
- Anonymous usage events — the app sends the names of a
few actions (a search was made, a restaurant was opened, directions were
tapped) with coarse details, such as whether a search had any text, and the
app version. These carry no user ID, no device ID and no location, and
nothing you type. You can switch them off in You → Settings → Privacy →
"Share anonymous usage statistics"; then nothing is recorded or sent.
- Sign in with Apple — when you sign in this way, we keep
the token Apple gives us for one purpose only: so that the link to your
Apple ID can be revoked when you delete your account.
Location
nogoe asks for your location only after explaining why, and it works
without it. With your permission, your location is used to search for places
near you and to sort them by distance. It is sent with that search to our
backend, and, when the app looks up a place or an address, to Apple Maps
(on iPhone and iPad) or to Photon, a place-search service run by komoot (on
Android).
We never store your location and never attach it to your
account.
If you turn on new place alerts, your device remembers a rough position
(rounded to about a kilometre) so that it can check for new places near you
in the background. That rough position stays on your device, is sent only
with the check itself, and is erased when you turn the alerts off. The alerts
are created on your device; we hold no notification token for you.
Camera and photos
The camera is used only when you scan a barcode or take a photo of a
package, a restaurant or a dish. Nothing is captured in the background. When
you photograph an ingredients label, the text is read on your device; it is
not sent anywhere to be read. A photo is uploaded only when you choose to
post it, and then it is public. If you pick a photo from your library
instead, the app receives only the photo you pick.
Community content and moderation
Reports, notes and photos are written by other members of the community,
not by us. They describe what members found at the time; restaurants and
manufacturers change things, so always confirm with the restaurant and check
the package yourself.
Text you post is screened automatically, on your device and again on our
backend, before it is published. You can report any place, dish, product,
post, photo or member, and block any member, from inside the app — what you
report, and everything from someone you block, disappears from your app
immediately. Moderators review reports within 24 hours and can remove content
and suspend accounts that break the community guidelines. Contact
info@praptiyogi.app to report
content or to ask about anything you have posted.
Deleting your data
You can withdraw a report or remove a photo you posted from inside the app
at any time. To delete your account, go to You → Settings → Delete
account. It happens in the app, immediately, and cannot be
undone.
Deleting your account removes:
- your login — the email and password, or the link to your Apple ID;
- your email address;
- your display name, profile photo and badges;
- your saved places and products, and your list of blocked members;
- the free-text notes on your reports;
- the photos you uploaded, which are taken down from every page.
It keeps the structured yes / no / unknown answers you gave about onion,
garlic and egg, and the places, dishes and products you added. These stay
without your name, attributed to "Deleted member", so that what others are
told does not silently change.
If you can't get into your account, email
info@praptiyogi.app and we'll delete
it for you within 30 days.
Who else is involved
- Supabase, our backend provider, stores the data
described above and handles sign-in on our behalf. Like any internet
service, its servers see your device's IP address when the app connects, and
may keep it briefly in technical logs to keep the service running and to
prevent abuse. We don't use it to identify you or to work out where you
are.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple. On iPhone and iPad
it also provides the map, and the place searches and lookups done through
Apple Maps, which receives the area being searched in order to answer. Where
no member has photographed a place, the iPhone and iPad app shows Apple
Maps' street view of its address or a small map; for that Apple receives the
position of the place, not yours. Apple's own privacy policy covers that.
- OpenFreeMap draws the map in the Android app, from
OpenStreetMap data. Its servers receive the part of the map being shown
(and, like any internet service, your device's IP address). Where no member
has photographed a place, the Android app shows a small map of where it is,
drawn the same way; for that OpenFreeMap receives the position of the place,
not yours.
- Photon, run by komoot, answers the place searches and
address lookups in the Android app. It receives what you type in a place
search and the area being searched; when you choose to search near you, or
ask the app to name where you are, that area is your location. It is not
sent with anything about you or your account.
- Google: if you paste a short link shared from Google
Maps while adding a place, the app asks Google which address the link stands
for. That request carries no cookies and nothing about you or your account
beyond your device's IP address. The app reads the name and position written
in the address it gets back; it does not load the Google Maps page, and takes
nothing else from Google.
- Google ML Kit (Android only) reads barcodes and
ingredient labels on your device; the camera image is not sent anywhere to
be read. As Google describes in its ML Kit data disclosure, ML Kit sends
Google diagnostic and usage information about itself — the device model and
Android version, the app's name and version, performance measurements and
error codes — which Google uses for diagnostics and usage analytics. The
list Google publishes does not include the images or what was read from
them.
There are no advertising networks and no analytics companies in either app.
The iPhone and iPad app contains no third-party code. The Android app is built
with open-source libraries (for the map, networking and showing images) and
with Google ML Kit, described above.
What we don't do
- No advertising
- No tracking, in this app or across other apps and websites
- No selling or sharing of your data with anyone for their own use
- No showing your email address to anyone
- No storing your location
Earlier versions
Reviews posted in nogoe 1.x were stored in our Apple CloudKit database
under an anonymous identifier. They are not part of nogoe 2.0 and were not
copied to it. To have them deleted, email
info@praptiyogi.app. Places from the
original community list were carried over and are shown as coming from the
original nogoe list; the names of the people who added them are not
shown.
Children
nogoe is not aimed at children, and browsing stores nothing about the
person using it. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and
we'll remove it.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this
address with a new "last updated" date.
