Every part of the app is in the menu at the top left: Home, Puja, Audio, Lighting, Schedule, Special Occasions and Settings.
A scheduled puja didn't start
iOS doesn't let an app start itself, so scheduled pujas start only while Ghar Mandir is open on screen. They don't start while the device is locked, while another app is in front, or after Ghar Mandir has been closed. Ghar Mandir doesn't use notifications.
- Leave Ghar Mandir open on screen and turn on Keep screen on (see below). A wall-mounted iPad that stays plugged in is ideal.
- In Schedule, check that the schedule's switch is on, and check its time and days. Each card shows when it will next start.
- If Ghar Mandir is opened within about five minutes of a scheduled time, that puja still starts. Later than that it's skipped, so a puja never starts hours late.
- A scheduled puja is also skipped if the same puja is already running, or if you started it yourself in the hour before.
Keeping the screen on
Turn on Settings › Playback › Keep screen on, or use the switch that appears in Schedule. The screen then stays awake whenever Ghar Mandir is open. While a puja is running, the app keeps the screen awake by itself.
Lights don't change
- Turn off Demo Mode. Ghar Mandir starts in Demo Mode, which lights only simulated bulbs and never touches real lights. Turn it off in Settings.
- Connect Apple Home. In Lighting, tap Connect Apple Home and allow access when iOS asks. If you said no earlier, allow Ghar Mandir in Settings › Privacy & Security › HomeKit.
- Link your scenes. Ghar Mandir runs scenes you've made in the Home app. In Lighting, choose an Apple Home scene for each mandir scene you use (Morning, Aarti, Evening and so on). Make sure the scene works in the Home app first.
- Keep the app open. Apple Home only accepts commands while Ghar Mandir is on screen, so lights change only while the app is open.
- If Lighting keeps waiting for Apple Home, check that you're signed in to iCloud and have a home set up in the Home app.
Importing recordings
- Go to Audio, tap Import audio and pick files from the Files app. You can choose several at once. Recordings on a computer need to be somewhere the Files app can reach first, such as iCloud Drive.
- MP3, M4A, WAV and AIFF work best; AAC and CAF files can be imported too. Copy-protected files, such as songs downloaded from a streaming service, can't be imported.
- Routines choose recordings by category. Ghar Mandir guesses the category from the title or file name (for example, "Morning Aarti.mp3" becomes an Aarti). To change it, edit the recording's details. Mark a recording as a favorite to have routines play it first in its category.
- If a puja says No recording chosen for a step, import a recording in that step's category.
Demo Mode
Demo Mode is on when you first open Ghar Mandir, so you can try every routine with no lights or recordings set up. It plays short synthesized tones and shows simulated lights in Lighting; real lights are never touched. Recordings you import always play instead of the demo tones. Turn Demo Mode off in Settings when you're ready to use your own Apple Home scenes.
Gujarati
Choose Settings › Language › ગુજરાતી to show the whole app in Gujarati, including tithis and festival names. To give a recording a Gujarati title, edit its details; recordings without one show their English title.
Playing with the screen locked
Once a puja is playing, you can lock the screen or switch to another app and the recordings keep playing, with controls on the Lock Screen and in Control Center. Apple Home light changes, and long steps without music, need Ghar Mandir on screen, so for a full puja with lights, keep the app open. A phone call pauses the puja, which usually carries on by itself when the call ends; if a speaker disconnects, the puja pauses until you resume it.
Other questions
- Does my iPhone sync with my iPad? No. Each device keeps its own recordings and setup, and nothing is sent between them.
- Which years does the calendar cover? Tithis, fasting days and festivals come from the BAPS calendar for 2026, built into the app.

- Your iOS version (Settings › General › About)
- The Ghar Mandir version, shown at the bottom of the app's menu
- What you expected, and what happened instead
